With the arrival of a new front man, Sweet Ermengarde remain to their style not only loyal but they now sound more like Sweet Ermengarde than ever and again put the focus on atmosphere rather than snappy songs to clap along. But this time they go one step further and present with Ex Oblivione a well composed and self-contained work of mystical Gothic Rock. This is already evident in the epic, almost twenty-minute, three-part title track (Ex Oblivione / Into Oblivion / From Beyond). Mystical, slow building tension and arousal and finally in a rousing anthem culminating Gothic Rock. In addition, tracks like like Carmilla and Tender Russian Roulette are sure to be staples in the near future being played in many a "Dark Scene" club night. The latter will also be available in advance not only as a download single limited edition version, including "B-side" and remix, but also with a video for the song! Yes finally the dark Nigredo-Clad with cutting Death Rock guitars and a powerful framework of bass and drums. That is Sweet Ermengarde in the last three years were not idle but songwriting and dedicated to excellent production. Dedicated to a uncompromising vision and invested a lot to make the most out of the material, to raise the bar and it shows that it has paid off. Lovecraft) Fast drei Jahre nach ihrem vielbeachteten Debut Raynham Hall, mit dem die Bochumer bereits beste Kritiken einfahren konnten, steht mit Ex Oblivione nun ein Nachfolger in den Startlöchern der die hohen Erwartungen mehr als nur erfüllen dürfte. Trotz Sängerwechsels bleiben Sweet Ermengarde ihrem Stil nicht nur treu, sie klingen nun mehr nach Sweet Ermengarde denn je und legen erneut den Schwerpunkt auf Atmosphäre statt auf schmissige Mitklatschnummern. Sie gehen diesmal aber einen Schritt weiter und präsentieren mit Ex Oblivione ein auskomponiertes und in sich geschlossenes Werk mystischen Gothic Rocks. Das wird bereits beim epischen, fast zwanzigminütigen, dreiteiligen Titelsong (Ex Oblivione/Into Oblivion/From Beyond) klar. Mystisch, langsam aufbauend, die Spannung steigernd und schließlich in einer mitreißenden Gothic Rock Hymne gipfelnd. Daneben auch eingängige Nummern wie Carmilla und Tender Russian Roulette die man in Zukunft sicher in der ein oder anderen Szenedisco zu hören bekommen wird. Letzterer wird außerdem nicht nur vorab als Download Single in einer eigenen Version inklusive "B-Seite" und Remix sondern auch mit einem professionell produzierten Video veröffentlicht werden. Und schließlich noch das düstere Nigredo-Clad mit sägenden Deathrock Gitarren und einem mächtigen Gerüst aus Bass und Schlagzeug. Dass Sweet Ermengarde in den letzten drei Jahren nicht untätig waren mach sich aber nicht nur im Songwriting bemerkbar sondern auch in einer hervorragenden Produktion. Hier wurde kompromisslos an Werk gegangen und viel investiert um das Beste aus dem Material zu holen und das macht sich das hat sich gelohnt. Man darf also Gespannt sein was da Anfang 2016 kommen wird. Wer Raynham Hall mochte, wird Ex Oblivione lieben!
