A TRIBUTE TO FRED ASTAIRE
In celebration of Fred Astaire Franchised Dance Studios’ 70th Anniversary, Fred Astaire Dance Studio / Vienna, Austria will delight with this international music project in honour of the legendary dancer and his Austrian roots.
For this album Rainer C. Regatschnig, Wolfgang Lohr and Justin Fidèle teamed up in order to explore how the original songs of Fred Astaire would sound with a contemporary arrangement and sung by some of the most energetic and still sensitive singers of nowadays.
More than a dozen Fred Astaire era classics have been remade and rerecorded for this production. Stars like Taco (#4 in the US with Puttin´On The Ritz), Right Said Fred (#1 in the US with I’m Too Sexy), Freakpower (#1 in the UK with Turn On, Tune In, Cop Out from the Levi’s advert), Kitten and the Hip (band from the London scene), Alex Larke of Electro Velvet and other surprise guests joined the project.
The Austrian roots of Fred Astaire were also celebrated in this project: local musicians were invited to breathe a little Austrian spirit into the electro sound. Fred Astaire’s father, Fritz Austerlitz, was born in Linz. After a brief stay in Vienna, he immigrated to the USA and settled in Omaha, Nebraska, where on 10 May 1899 his son Frederick was born, eventually to become the world-famous on-screen dancer Fred Astaire.
